The Tomato Aperitivo at Bucatini
On September 18th we say farewell to summer and peak season tomatoes.
The Bucatini patio transforms into an edible installation by LA-based food designer and cultural producer Zehra Ahmed. The gathering starts with a question:
What can a tomato become?
Working with the tomato both as a medium and muse, Zehra creates a sculpture, centerpiece, and conversation starter that lives somewhere between still life and hors d'oeuvres.
Ticket includes grazing rights, wine will be available for purchase on site.
ZEHRA AHMED
Zehra Ahmed is an artist, designer, and cook who works with food as a creative medium. Raised in Karachi, Pakistan, she started her career as an architect in New York where she worked on hospitality projects across Asia and America. She moved to Los Angeles and worked with the Haas Brothers, and since then has consulted on hospitality design projects, simultaneously working with brands and private clients to create culinary moments. Working beyond the boundaries of traditional culinary practice, she treats ingredients, plating, and process as aesthetic and sensory tools. She is currently based in Los Angeles and will travel the world to create work.
BUCATINI
Bucatini began as a small pantry shop “around back” in the heart of the pandemic. Almost four years later, the brand has grown to encompass much more than grocery. Victoria Fayad and Sofia Stephens originally founded the shop out of an excitement for quality goods and a desire to bring people together through the kitchen and home. The jewel box of a shop contains a hand-selected curation of Mediterranean products. From specialty canned tomatoes and beans, sauces, and pastas, to mouth blown glass, heritage home brands, cookbooks, and decorative objects, Bucatini’s collection is one that honors its ethos: quality, authenticity, and romance.
