Meet Chefs Travis Matoesian and Alan Rudoy. Close friends, roommates, and culinary co-conspiritors embark on a journey of pizza pop-ups and revelry. They call it: El Gato Negro.
Together, they've worked at some of the most iconic restaurants in the city, pulling inspiration from Funke's dough, Bavel’s firewood cooking, Vespertine’s otherwordly flavor combinations, and a touch of chaos from Poltergeist. Not to mention their own home kitchens, having grown up in an Armenian community in Chatsworth, and a Russian Jewish community in Woodland Hills, respectively. That’s what we call LA cuisine.
After a few shots of Slivovitz and french fries, we somehow convinced these two to let us in on the process of recipe testing, workshopping, and dreaming up your next favorite pop-up... maybe even a restaurant one day.
Consider it a R&D housewarming party— all you can eat pizzas, tempura fried dolmas, lamb leg roulette, bottomless Big Noise Beer, and a whole lotta mischief.
Listen up, it may be the first time you hear their names but it won’t be the last…

EL GATO NEGRO
El Gato Negro is an LA pizza pop-up by Chefs Travis Matoesian and Alan Rudoy. Their journey as culinary co-conspirators started in the kitchen at Funke and has since taken the streets with pizzas and bites inspired by their Armenian and Russian-Jewish upbringing (respectively) and their experience working in some of the best LA kitchens including Bavel, Vespertine, and Poltergeist.
BIG NOISE BEER
Chosen Brewmasters from around the world, and the Chefs who forge our favorite iconic dishes, sparked the creation of the borderless beer. A beer that feels at home on any table, in any restaurant. A beer that goes best with good food and the good times that inevitably follow. A beer light enough to drink best with one of everything on the menu. A beer with explosive effervescence for your palate. A beer that tastes like a beer, but doesn’t aftertaste like a beer.
